This new edition of Recherche sociale is designed to help train novice researchers by presenting a procedural approach that is both rigorous and open-ended. The book reflects the evolution of research methods in the humanities and social sciences, while building on the foundations established in previous editions.
The first chapters of the book present the main characteristics and theories of social science research. The stages of social research—defining the research problem, designing the methodology, and collecting data—are then discussed in detail. The final part of the book is dedicated to exploring important issues that need to be considered by all those undertaking research projects, whether in academic or organizational settings.
All chapters have been revised for this seventh edition to reflect methodological and epistemological developments in recent years, as well as the social movements that have motivated these developments, including citizen participation, decolonization, and feminism. Several chapters have been profoundly transformed thanks to contributions from new authors. A new chapter on contemporary issues in social research and the publication of research has also been added.
